These gorgeous yarns arrived last week all the way from The United Kingdom, purchased from an Etsy Shop called GamerCrafting. I have waited for them with much anticipation and they are really awesome to behold!
Work, Fun and Play
I am no more a busy housewife, with control over my time! Since mid-2017, I have been a working woman – just as busy but with less freedom. More $$$ though! So, I allocated some of my hard-earned cash for my favourite fun things such as yarns, fruits (yup, they can be pretty steep!), Pandora (newly found interest), more skincare, etc.
Many believe that being a housewife is harder. I beg to differ – whether one is a housewife or a working mom, the challenges are still there. Both are hard, but in different ways. I loved being a housewife – spending lots of time with the kids, sticking to my own schedule, being thrifty and creative. However, working has its perks as well – aside from more money, I get to meet people from all aspects of life, learn new things and travel for free. The stress is there, of course, but lucky for me, my job is not as stressful as most. And it allows me time with my youngest son.
Yarns from GamerCrafting
I bought these yarns from an Etsy store, GamerCrafting. Ringgit has slightly improved these couple of months, compared to last year, so I took the opportunity to indulge in my favourite things such as yarns and books. There are many indie dyed yarns on Etsy, but I chose yarns from GamersCrafting because:
- Clefairy looks incredibly sweet!
- the price and shipping costs offered by GamerCrafting are more affordable than the rest (shipping costs less than RM30).
- I don’t mind waiting a bit longer for their arrival – I had a baby dress/blouse to finish knitting at that time.
Clefairy Dust
Without further ado, let me introduce you to the stars of today’s post: Clefairy Dust and Upside Down. They are both hand-dyed with professional grade dyes and treated to resist fading.
This sweet Clefairy Dust is a 100g superwash merino wool sock yarn made from 75% and 25% nylon. Each 100g skein is about 400 meters in length. According to the maker, Angelina Panozzo, this yarn was dyed with cutesy Clefairy as inspiration, with hot pink and black speckles and pooling that looks great in any sock or shawl pattern.
Upside Down
Upside Down is inspired by the creepy, dark, and misty landscape of The Upside-Down, an alternate dimension introduced in season one of the tv series ‘Stranger Things’. The yarn has multi-tonal shades of turquoise, black, and grey. Upside Down is a 100g baby alpaca and merino wool (3 DK & light worsted) yarn, 100% natural fibres. Each skein is 225 meters in length.
Price
In terms of costs : Clefairy cost RM73.57 while Upside Down was RM79.23. Total shipping costs for both was RM28.30. Quite hefty, right? But they are very unique, hence, worth every penny. That’s why I don’t want them to end up languishing in my boxes of stash.
Talking about stash, fyi, I have lots of cotton yarns still unused because I realised too late that cotton yarns are heavy. I knitted a few hats for my sons and they revealed to me (after much urging) that the hats made from woolen yarns are lighter and cooler than those made with cotton yarns. Maybe cotton/wool/acrylic blends would be better for hats. As such, I think cotton yarns would work well as shawl or blankets.
Comparison between Clefairy and Upside Down
See the difference in terms of texture and thickness? As it is thicker that Clefairy, I think I am going to turn Upside Down yarn into a hat.
As for Clefairy, I am comtemplating of turning it into a sexy wearable – something to melt my Hubby dearest’s heart. With the kids all being quite independent, we now have more time for fun and romance!
Coincidentally, exactly 3 years ago, I wrote a post about Merino Wool and expressed my desire to work with it. Now, I have 2 merino yarns to try out! This blog truly is my crafting journal.
