At last, we had a lovely sunshine yesterday and the temperature this early morning is not as cool anymore. I read that in some parts of the Peninsula Malaysia, the temperature went as low as 17ºC. It’s like being in the highlands of Kundasang, I think I have not sweat at all for a week, more or less, until just a few minutes ago. Now back to stitching…
My cross stitching journey with Little Red is fraught with stumbling blocks. It started last September, but later I had to restitch the whole thing on a different fabric due to my oversights.
Then, something else materialized which disrupted my momentum and I began to lose the drive to continue with Little Red. Consequently, I found myself absolutely devoid of stitching activities last December.
For those who haven’t started stitching, but are planning to stitch, Little Red based on the chart provided in The World of Cross Stitching, let me share a few things regarding the floss/threads to be used.
1. Use the publisher’s preferred/primary thread/floss
If you can, use Madeira threads, that is the actual thread suggested for Gorjuss. I had a query recently regarding DMC 644, and I found the solution in Bothy Threads’ FB page. So, when a similar issue cropped up, I have asked Bothy Threads FB admin for some info, and they informed me that Madeira was used in the picture and that the DMC conversion was done by the magazine.
This is what prompted me to seek help:
2. Scrutinize the floss colours before stitching
It was the difference between lime green and light beige. Looks like Little Red is wearing a dress with a strange pattern or probably stained. Not a big deal, perhaps, but it’s like a pebble in the shoe – quite irksome. Therefore, it is best to scrutinize the floss colours and compare them with the actual colours in the photo before stitching.
Since I can’t get Madeira threads locally, and I am almost halfway done with the chart, I decided to get a suitable floss. I referred to Findstitch for suggestions. But purchasing took some time, and I only managed to visit my favourite store in Kota Kinabalu city last week. I unpicked the DMC 3047 yesterday (definitely not my favourite thing to do!) and will substitute Madeira 2703 with DMC 166, eventually .
The question is, when will I resume stitching Little Red again, now that I am into crocheting…? I am currently crocheting these hexxies, and am quite determined to clear my stash of old yarns:
Long term projects (my definition of ‘long term’ is quite wide as even little designs can take me forever to complete) are tricky because my fingers itch for new things quite frequently, but I’m trying to set aside a couple of hours weekly to work on each WIP, and so far, I have managed to avoid starting new projects. 😀 I hope to do some stitching of my first ever Margaret Sherry design today.
Have a great Sunday everyone!
