Crochet is a process of creating fabric from yarn using a crochet hook. Crocheting, like knitting, involves pulling loops of yarn through other loops. Crochet differs from knitting in that only one loop is active at one time using a crochet hook, while knitting involves multiple loops using knitting needles.
I learned to crochet when I was 17 years old from old library books. My best friend tried to teach me at school, but I really found it too difficult to follow. I thought I was useless at it but it turned out that I needed to learn at my own pace. It was while waiting for my SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia/Malaysian Certificate of Education) result that I bought my first crochet hook and a white yarn, and very slowly taught myself crocheting by flipping through the pages of crochet books.
I started with simple little doilies & squares. This is one of my few surviving early crochet pieces. The tension is definitely uneven, but I love it!
Definitely a precious memory to keep, especially with the tiny stains adorning it. And also proof that my SPM holidays were not spent in vain.
