Adui……it’s so hard to update a blog regularly, especially for someone who lacks discipline – like me. In my defense, I’ve been busy ‘making’ and ‘doing’, so less time to type and blog (hence, all the blurry and terrible photos!). Hahaha…..excuses! It’s really fun to knit or crochet everywhere. But my love for colorful stuffs like fabric, yarns and floss gives me a heartache sometimes – so many new yarns, but so little time to knit and crochet!
Due to space constraints at home (fortunately? unfortunately?), I seldom buy yarns. And many times, I say to myself – no more, not until I’ve used up most of them. But then, I surrendered to temptations, because ….well, I’ve simply no excuse!
I pre-ordered these cotton yarns in May 2016 from a seller in FB – DMMZI Craft Supply. Pre-order means that the order will come at a later date. I like buying pre-order from the store because the price is very reasonable and the seller helps me to jot down the yarn codes which will make it easier for me if I want to reorder in the future. The purpose of the purchase was to knit hats – for my sons, future nieces and nephews and also, I hoped to start selling in Etsy. If only I have time to knit many, and make less mistakes, less frogging….ahh… Fyi, I bought the head so that I don’t have to pester my nephew to do fittings for my hats.
I though that was the end. Alas….
Wool and Acrylic/Synthetic Yarns
I succumbed to temptations, because an FB friend was de-stashing and offered those beautiful Alize yarn at a lovely price, so it’s now added to my humble stash. Hooray! Finished knitting that baby hat months before the baby is due, which never happened to me before! And I still have a lot of that yarn left. The yarn is a medium-bulky weight and easy to knit with, so the hat was finished quite fast.
The above candilicious woolen yarns were sold on a special discount, truly! I didn’t care that they were wool, I was attracted to the colours. And I learn something from this purchase. These hank of yarns get tangled easily if we knit them straightaway – which really tested my temper. Therefore, each has to be wound into a ball, which I eventually did while watching tv.
Here are some other things I managed to crochet or knit last year – using acrylic and cotton yarns.
Completing the shawl was really, really hard because I kept running out of the cotton yarns. Yup, I’m truly bad at estimating the number of yarns needed. And that particular yarn is not always available, in fact I had to purchase them from 2 different sellers. When it was finally finished, I was so proud and totally relieved! I almost gave up on it.
I bought the Himalaya Everyday Bebe Lux Stripes from Da’Knit, a very popular local Turkish yarn store. Made one more hat, rather hastily. I love the colour of this yarn, it shines under the light.
Also had fun experimenting with different crochet hooks. The result was that ‘mama & baby’ coasters. By the way, the pattern for my shawl above was also from this same magazine.
I got these stunning Alize Diva yarns from Mami Jazmina (I think she now goes by ‘My JJ Craft Corner‘ on FB) at the end of December 2015. She’s an FB seller based in Sabah. Then, in January this year, I used it to re-purpose an old towel into a few hand towels for my daughters such as this one:
And also this lovely piece, which I hope will eventually turn into a shawl.
There are lots more, knitting and crochet activities, finished and unfinished, but I usually forget to take pics of them. Luckily, I posted some on FB, awfully blurry & terrible pics they may be but without them, I wouldn’t have these memories to show here.
In short, although I did a lot of cross stitching in 2016, I also had some fun knitting and crocheting.
