Google is my number one (No. 1) search engine. I am sure Yahoo, Bing and the rest perform just as brilliantly but I am more comfortable using Google.
Initially, I was among those who resisted the computers, chiefly because I have encountered numerous problems in the past when dealing with machinery and electrical things. Not their fault, obviously, I am simply gadget-challenged. Therefore, it was inevitable that my computer-learning experience was much delayed and quite littered with dozens of curses and slaps at the PC for ‘deleting’ my documents… 😀
Then, when I finally got comfortable typing using Word Star and Word Perfect, I avoided the internet even though free lessons were readily available at the university. How silly of me! 😀 Then again, the internet 18 years ago was not as interesting and enjoyable as it is now.
As a result, I started using the internet quite late, circa 1996 (and even then, only to access emails). Nonetheless, I believe it is largely due to the internet that I have resumed cross stitching. Seeing all the wonderful stitchings from all over the world has motivated me to pick a needle and floss. All the free patterns also helped me with my first few small projects and the online stores have provided me with diverse materials.
Just yesterday, I was delightfully reminded of the amazing convenience that the internet is providing all of us. I was having fun stitching ‘Little Red’ here :
and was starting on a new colour when I noticed that there’s something not quite right with it – compared to the colour on the magazine.
Noticed the pale colour on the circled part of the hair? That’s stitched with DMC 644 as stated in the chart. I thought maybe I have picked the wrong floss, because little Gorjuss doesn’t have streaks of grey hair! So, I looked through my floss organizer, pulled out DMC 644 and well, I was not wrong. So, I concluded there’s a typo in the chart. How to find out the correct floss?
I googled ‘Little Red DMC 644’ and the first search was the FB page of Bothy Threads which explained the error and informed that the correct floss is DMC 844!
Imagine, if this happened to me 20 years ago, before the age of the internet, I would only get this info if I bought the next issue of the World of Cross Stitching. Now, I also found out that I could actually get the heart button and the lace from Bothy Threads. How wonderful! 😀
So this is the correct shade:
Hooray! Many thanks to Google & Bothy Threads! 😀
