Hair Clips Galore!

Friday, November 18th, 2011

I had the most fun crafting during the recent blackout at my home.  I made hairclips in the living room with the front doors wide open from about 4pm until sunset. And, to my delight, my eldest son was curious enough to learn this craft.  Frankly, I think, he was itching to try sealing the ends of the ribbons with the lighter.

The pattern for this gorgeous peony flower is courtesy of Yoonie At Home . Her instructions are clear and easy to follow, and the photos are wonderful to look at.  Thanks a lot Yoonie!

I did so much more, but I despair trying to adjust the settings of the camera – hubby was not around to help. So, my photos are terribly blurry… :D

LOVELY DIY FELT FLOWERS

Friday, August 12th, 2011

Felt Flowers are lovely.  I have some felt materials in my crafts boxes – somewhere – and there are so many free tutorials available online.

So I visited a few blogs that provides tutorials, and I was fascinated with I Could Make That. It made me wonder whether I could bear doing the small cuttings.  Well, actually even the drawing seem a chore – I have never before attempted to do small stuffs with felt.  So, it’s quite a challenge to challenge myself to try.

It was a Saturday night, while watching tv, that I drew the templates on an old label card.  I try, as much as possible to recycle everything, but I fear that keeping used things aside for future uses will one day turn me into a hoarder!

Anyway, I used 3 types of coins – the 5, 10 and 20 sen.  Really, I dread doing cuttings with scissors especially on thick paper – so tedious.  Still, I managed to cut 3 templates.

Then, I traced the templates onto felts of different colours.  Afterwards, I cut the felt.  Before I knew it, I have actually cut a lot!  The cutting process was not as taxing as I thought!

The sewing part was fun as the flowers came into shape.  For the centre of the flower, I experimented with a few items such as buttons, crystal beads and poymer beads.  I also mixed and matched the felt petals.
